Damascus mosaic chest. Made by assembling various types of wood in various natural colors to create this unique design. The wood is cut into sticks with geometric shapes and joined together. The strips are cut and then glued onto the product. It is then inlaid with natural mother-of-pearl, giving it a shine that attracts the attention of onlookers.
It is then covered from the inside with velvet to give it luxury.
Artisans have passed this craft down from generation to generation. It lasted 700 years, with each generation adding special developments until it reached us in this final form. Sadly, the number of artisans working in this craft has dwindled, and only a few workshops remain in the world.
